Description and Growing Information

ID CharacteristicHelen Von Stein is one of the best cultivars available with larger leaves and it is more heat and humidity resistant. This cultivar does not bear flowers which would only detract from its unique foliage texture and colour anyway.
LandscapeFoliage provides interesting texture and colour to the border or rock garden. Effective edger or small area ground cover.
PropagationPropagate by division.
CultivationIt is very particular about too much water and prefers to remain dry, so by all means avoid wet feet. Stachys grows best in full sun and makes a great rock garden plant.
PestsTends to rot and develop leaf diseases in humid summer climates. Well-drained soils are essential in order to combat potential rot problems.
HabitatDense mat-forming.
Leaf DescriptionThe leaves are extremely hairy and very soft to the touch, thus the name Lamb's Ear.
