General DescriptionThis small tree has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened.
HabitatStreams in subtropical forests at an altitude of 1,200-2,400 m.
Bark/Stem DescriptionSmooth, greenish-brown at maturity and green and glabrous in its youth.
Flower/Leaf Bud DescriptionOvoid, reddish-brown winter buds.
Leaf DescriptionLight green towards the lower portion of the leaf, graduating to an olive green colour, 3 triangular-ovate lobes, a rounded base, 6-15 x 5-21 cm. Leaves turn yellow, orange, or red in autumn.
Flower DescriptionWhite, 5 petaled flowers with purplish-red sepals.
Fruit DescriptionGlabrous samaras and ovoid brown nutlets, 5 x 7 mm, produced March through July.
