HabitatS. americanum grows on riparian areas, agricultural areas,desert, upland areas and on disturbed land where little extra water needed.
Leaf DescriptionThe leaves are alternate on the branch, and vary in size, up to 10 cm long and 7 cm broad, with a coarsely wavy or toothed margin.
Flower DescriptionThe flowers are roughly 1 cm in diameter, white or occasionally light purple, with yellow stamens.
Fruit DescriptionThe fruit is a shiny black, 5–10 mm diameter berry , containing numerous small seeds.
