Caution should be exercised when planting this dramatic landscape plant, it once took me several years to eradicate it from the borders where even the smallest piece of root produced a new plant.

Description and Growing Information

ID CharacteristicExudes an orange sap from broken stems and roots, roots are a distinct dull orange colour.
PropagationRoot cuttings collected in the autumn and cut into 5 cm lengths and placed horizontally in flats barley covering the top. Water and place in a cold frame until growth appears and then pot individually.
Leaf DescriptionDissected, heart-shaped, grey-green leaves.
