General DescriptionListed as vulnerable on the current IUCN red list (http://www.iucnredlist.org).
HabitatAbies fabri occurs in Sichuan, China at elevations of 2,000-3,000 m in cool, humid mountain ranges with an annual precipitation rate of greater than 2,000 mm. It is found growing in association with Tsuga chinensis, Picea likiangensis and rarely Larix potaninii.
Bark/Stem DescriptionBark is grey, becoming furrowed. Shoots are beige or brown, tinged yellow.
Flower/Leaf Bud DescriptionWinter buds are green tinged with purple, conic or globose in shape.
Leaf DescriptionLeaves are 2 - 2.5 mm in length, bright silver with narrow stomatal bands and rounded apex. They spread below and above in two sets, forming a V-shaped groove.
Fruit DescriptionCones are 4 - 5 cm in length with protruding bracts.
