Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionIris 'George' is a dwarf, bulbous iris with straight leaves and fragrant, deeply purple flowers.
ShapeUpright, slender.
LandscapeSuitable in a rock garden and in combination with other minor bulbs such as Chionodoxa, Galanthus, Crocus and Eranthis.
CultivationGrow in full sun, in moist, well drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. Resents transplanting and bulb disturbances. Mulch around plants to prevent contamination of early spring blooms from soil splash.
PestsSusceptible to slugs and snails. No diseases of note.
HabitatHorticultural origin.
Leaf DescriptionStraight and narrow, almost square in section.
Flower DescriptionSolitary, fragrant, deeply purple with darker falls and bright yellow signals surrounded by white streaks, resilient to early spring frosts.
