OriginNative to Japan and Central China. Acer maximowiczianum was named after Carl Johann Maximowicz, a 19th century Russian botanist and director of the Saint Petersburg Botanical Garden (also known as Komarov Botanical Garden), the oldest botanical garden in Russia.
