Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionCistus populifolius is an erect evergreen shrub with crêpe-like white flowers.
LandscapeSuitable for planting on dry banks and terraces.
PropagationBy layering in the spring or by softwood or heel cuttings 8 cm long, taken in late summer, rooted in a 1:2 peat to sand mixture at 15 °C and kept in low humidity. Protect from frost overwinter and pot on in spring.
CultivationGrow in full sun, in light soil. Intolerant of pruning and root disturbance. Trim only to remove deadwood. Pinch back young plants to encourage bushiness.

Leaf DescriptionOvate to heart-shaped, 5 - 9 cm long, smooth green above, venation reticulate (smaller veins forming a network) beneath, margins undulate.
Flower DescriptionCrêpe-like, up to 5 cm in diameter, white petals each have a bright yellow basal spot and yellow stamens, arranged in a cluster of 2 - 6 called a cyme (a central stem with a single terminal flower that develops first with other flowers developing as terminal buds of lateral stems).
