General DescriptionA tall, slow spreading evergreen plant.
PropagationPropagate from seed or by division.
CultivationGrow in partial shade to full sun in moist well-drained soil.
HabitatMountainous regions of southwestern China.
Leaf DescriptionEvergreen leaves are trifoliate, divided into three lance-shaped leaflets, medium green and often mottled with pink, yellow and red but towards maturity turning dark green. The leaves are particularly attractive in the spring. Glaucous underside.
Flower DescriptionFlowers measure 4 cm with red sepals. Petals are pale yellow but occasionally white or light pink; flowers spurred.
