Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionA bright red to pink-purple flowering herbaceous perennial.
PropagationPropagate by division or seed. Self-seeds or spreads by rhizomes to form colonies.
CultivationGrow in partial shade in a deep, moist, rich, well-drained soil. Should not be left in standing water.
PestsNuisances include aphids, slugs, snails and red spider mites. Diseases that should be watched for include botritis, grey mould, root rot, powdery mildew and leaf spot.
HabitatShaded, rocky areas with moist soil. Typically found under trees.
Leaf DescriptionLarge green leaves with yellow veins with narrow, with a length of 15 cm and tube-like stems covered in small white hairs.
Flower DescriptionDeep rose,with five notched petals in formation around a yellowish ovary, appearing on leafless rose-pink stems that rise above the leaves.
