Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionA common weed, considered to be one of the most competitive amongst soybeans. A close relative to ragweed and thus close contact with pollen and leaves can cause allergic reactions to susceptible individuals. Thick woody, erect, branched stems with alternating leaves. Burs are generally found attached to the root.
CultivationPrefers moist soil with a temperature of approximately 15˚C. Tolerant of continual flooding and saline soil conditions.
HabitatSoybean fields or beaches.
Leaf DescriptionWide, triangular leaves with toothed margins.
Flower DescriptionSmall hidden green flowers.
Fruit DescriptionOval, brown burr covered covered in spines and hooked beaks. Each burr contains 2 seeds.
