General DescriptionForm dense mats, stems almost crawl through shrubs and open areas.
CultivationSandy soils and sandy loams.
HabitatValleys in bluffs and hills generally at altitudes under 150 m.
Leaf DescriptionLanceolate, 4.5-7.5 mm in length and 3 mm in diameter. Spines are evenly distributed on greyish brown or reddish brown sheaths, 0.9-1.5 cm in length.
Flower DescriptionFlowers are clustered, each roughly 3-4 cm in diameter a vivid greenish yellow colour with a purple hue.
Fruit DescriptionGreenish in colour, maturing to a tan or brown, obovoid-turbinate, approximately 1.2 cm in length and 1 cm in diameter. Fruit falls off in late summer or autumn.
Colour DescriptionDark green with greenish-yellow flowers.
