Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionNamed after Russian botanist, Karl Ivanovich Maximowicz, this small tree is considered to be globally threatened and has been placed on the IUCN Red List.
LandscapeWoodland or bog gardens.
PropagationSow in a cold frame as soon as the seed is ripe. Germination should take place in the spring. Once the seed is large enough to handle, prick and place into individual pots. Plant in permanent positions in autumn/winter. If propagating via cuttings, cut mature wood as soon as the leaves fall in autumn, place outdoors in sandy soil.
CultivationMoist or wet, medium and heavy, acidic, neutral and alkaline soils in full sun to partial shade.
HabitatMountainous areas.
