General DescriptionNow rare in Western Europe, it has been placed on the IUCN Red List as least concern.
HabitatForest swamps and meadows at an altitude of 1,400-1,800 m.
Bark/Stem DescriptionDark brown bark with blackish-brown glabrous branches.
Leaf DescriptionLeaves ovate, oval or obovate, very toothed, green and 1.2-3.5 cm in length.
Flower DescriptionOblong female inflorescence. 1-1.5 cm x 4-6 mm.
Fruit DescriptionOblong nutley 2x1.5 mm with wings 1/2 its width, produced July through August.
