Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionThis species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as least concern.
LandscapeShrub borders.
PropagationPropagation by seed: seeds should be sown in autumn in a cold frame, germinating in late winter or spring. Seeds should be pre-soaked warm water for 48 hours, then 2 weeks warm preceded by 3-4 months of cold stratification. Germinates within 1-6 months at 20°C. Once large enough, prick and place into individual pots on a cold frame. Place into permanent positions late spring or early summer. Can be divided by suckers in early spring and placed directly into permanent position.
CultivationMedium moisture, well drained, acidic soil in full sun to partial shade. Root suckers should be removed.
PestsSusceptible to leaf spots, blight and crown gall. Pests include squirrels, scale, leafhoppers and caterpillars.
