Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionThis species has not been seen since 1938, however the species has not been specifically looked for recently. It has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened and may possibly be extinct.
HabitatMixed forests in West Yunnan at an altitude of 1,500 m.
Bark/Stem DescriptionRough grey bark with glabrous branchlets, purplish brown in colour when young maturing to a dark brown.
Flower/Leaf Bud DescriptionOvoid with numerous scales and a glabrous outer shell.
Leaf DescriptionDark green in colour, oblong, ovate or suborbicular, thin with a rounded base and 8-10 lateral veins on either side of the mid vein, 6-8 x 2-3 cm.
Flower DescriptionInfructescence corymbose, grey and 3.5-4 cm.
Fruit DescriptionPurple-brown fruit produced in September with ovoid and convex winged nutlets, 7 mm in diameter, yellowish or grey.
