Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionDue to habitat loss and degradation this species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened.
HabitatValleys in mixed forests in north-west and southern Yunnan at an altitude of 2,000-3,200 m.
Bark/Stem DescriptionGrey bark with vertical fissures, branchlets greyish brown when young, maturing to a dark greyish-brown.
Flower/Leaf Bud DescriptionGrey oval buds with scales along the margin.
Leaf DescriptionGreen, thicker leaf, 3 ovate lobes, a cordate base, primary veins and 21-24 secondary veins, 15-25x15-25 cm.
Fruit DescriptionConvex, winged nutles, yellowish in colour, 4-4.5x1.5-1.7cm, produced in September.
