Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionThis species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened.
HabitatMixed forests at an altitude of 1,000-2,500 m.
Bark/Stem DescriptionSmooth, grey with purplish-brown branchlets which turn greyish brown and glabrous as they mature.
Flower/Leaf Bud DescriptionOvoid with 5-6 pairs of scales.
Leaf DescriptionTrifoliolate leaves. Leaflets are elliptic-oblong to oblong-lanceolate, thin with tufts of hairs at the vein axils, 8-10 veins and a rounded base, 8-15 x 2-6 cm.
Flower Description5 or6 petaled flower yellowish in colour, 10-16 stamens which are twice the length of the petals.
Fruit DescriptionShort glabrous racemes of fruit, purplish-brown in colour. Convex winged nutlets 2-5.5 cm x 7 mm, produced in September.
