Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionThis new maple (discovered in 2003), has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened.
HabitatOn the western slopes of the Mt. Cangshan valley.
Bark/Stem DescriptionNewer branchlets are pubescent and greenish in colour, the older branchles are glabrescent and brown or dark brown in colour.
Flower/Leaf Bud DescriptionOvoid, dark brown with 9 pairs of scales.
Leaf DescriptionThin, 5 primary veins with 5 shallow lobes and a cordate base, 10-20 x 11-25 cm.
Flower DescriptionYellowish-green 5 petaled flower with 5 yellowish-green sepals, 8 stamens. Flowers are hermaphroditic.
Fruit DescriptionFruit racemes of 9-17 fruits, reddish green when young maturing to a yellowish brown, winged nutles, produced in September.
