General DescriptionThis species was previously listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List however, with habitat protection efforts and further research it is now listed as vulnerable.
CultivationMoist, acidic or neutral soil in full sun to partial shade, not tolerant of wind and therefore should be protected from it.

HabitatMixed forests, woods and open spaces at 2300 m.
Leaf DescriptionObovate, thick dark green and glossy with a pale green underside covered in hairs, 14-20 x 10 cm. Narrowly oblong-obovate, cuneate at the base.
Flower DescriptionLarge, 10-12 tepaled pink to purplish-red flowers 15-33 cm in diameter in April.
