Description and Growing Information

General DescriptionThis species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened and is considered critically endangered in China.
HabitatForests in valleys at an altitude of 1,100-1,800 m.
Bark/Stem DescriptionGreyish brown bark with light brown twigs.
Leaf DescriptionOboval to oboval-lanceolate, glossy green with dull underside, a cuneate base and 18-22 secondary veins on either side of the midvein, 15-27 x 4.5- cm.
Flower DescriptionMale catkins drooping and grouped in 3's.
Fruit DescriptionSubglobose, light brown acorn, 4.5-5.5 cm in diameter, produced October through November.
