General DescriptionConsidered to be a weed to farmers, although abundant locally, this species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as least concern.
HabitatFound at altitudes of 2,100-3,000 m.
Bark/Stem DescriptionGrey and scaly with reddish-grey twigs.
Flower/Leaf Bud DescriptionGlobose, hairless and brown, 1-2 mm in length.
Leaf DescriptionOblong, elliptical or oboval, thick, a rounded apex, blueish-green, a heart-shaped base and 5-6 veins on either side of the midvein, 1-3 x 0.8-2.5 cm.
Flower DescriptionMale catkins, 2 cm in length.
Fruit DescriptionAcorn, elliptic and brown, singular or paired, 1-1.5 cm.
