OriginThis Begonia species was introduced to the American Begonia Society as a new species from Brazil in 1961 by L. B. Smith and D. C. Wasshausen. It is found in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul at the southern tip of Brazil bordering Paraguay and Uruguay. Dr. Lyman Smith and Dr. Dieter Wasshausen wrote a Latin description and legitimized the name of the species in the July 1981 issue of the Begonian.

Colour DescriptionThe leaves are a dark olive green with white to chartreuse center. The under side of the leaf is red. The flowers are white. The hairs on the buds are a pink colour.
